The car I purchased was discribed as perfect in all respects. Everything worked, a/c was cold and this was the best DeLorean they ever sold.

I received several "disclaimers" which I was asked to sign and return to them. I immediately called the salesman (Scott) and told him I couldn't sign them since I hadn't seen the car. He said the disclaimers were just a formality and not to worry about signing them - the car was perfect in all respects. He then put the Sales Manager (Joe) on the phone and Joe confirmed everything Scott had said. He, Joe, said he personally had checked the car out completely and it had nothing at all that wasn't perfect and, again, don't worry about signing the disclaimers. So, I signed and returned them.

I live 900 miles away and it cost me $1,000 to have the car shipped to me. When it arrived, I found that the a/c didn't work and the driver's electric window didn't work. I drove it and and found, at 35 mph, the front end started shimmying so much you couldn't keep the car in a straight line.

I called Joe, the sales manager, and he said these problems must have happened while the car was being transported. I called Daniel Schmitt (owner of the Daniel Schmitt Co) and he told me that I had signed the disclaimers and he would not be responsible.

I had the problems fixed at a cost of $1,065.78.

I found the previous owner's address and called him. He told me that when he sold the car to Daniel Schmitt Company the a/c didn't work, the window didn't work and the front end shimmied.

I called Daniel Schmitt again and told him the previous owner said these problems existed when he sold him the car. Schmitt then made me the following offer: If I would ship the car back to him he would refund the selling price of $22,500. But, he would NOT pay for the paperwork he had charged me ($285.00). Nor would he pay for the shipping (which would now be ($2,000.00). Nor would he pay for the repairs ($1,065.78). Thus, I would be out $3,350.78 if I returned the car to him. He said he would also do me a favor by not charging me the $2,000 return fee he usually charges and, additionally, he would give me a $2,000 credit on any other car I buy from him. I was speechless.

I reported him to the St. Louis Better Business Bureau. They said that, since I had signed the disclaimers, they would register the complaint as "resolved".

The bottom line is, do not take their word for anything.
