Tempe Honda
Never Fixed Broken Seat on New Sale

Cars & Transport

I have a 2006 Honda Pilot that I started leasing in May. At the time I agreed to lease it, the seat back on the passenger seat hung out about an inch at the top. The salesman took it to service promising to have it fixed. (1st attempt). They couldn't fix it, needed to order a part. A couple weeks later, I brought the Pilot in to the service dept to have the seat fixed and get a towing package put on. Oops, they forgot to order the part for the seat. (2nd attempt).

Meanwhile, let me explain, this is a very busy Pilot. It is the only auto for our family of three... Two full time working parents and a teenager with many extracurricular activities. It is very difficult for me to get the Pilot in to the service dept. I either have to take time off work or find a Saturday with no band, baseball, ROTC, or work committments.

Tempe Honda calls to tell me the part is in. I take time off work to take the vehicle in and they say I can use a Hertz vehicle while they fix it. (not too bad an idea... Takes 30 minutes to and from work... So only an hour off work). Then they want me to pay for gas for the Hertz vehicle. Just gas, not rent mind you... However... That would mean... I was paying my own money to fix something that never should have been wrong with my new Pilot. I discussed the problem with "the man in the glass booth" who was supposed to be a manager, suggesting he should pay for the gas, but he didn't offer to. This was particularly frustrating because the previous 2003 Pilot that I had leased had a problem they needed to fix and they let me drive a Honda Accord for free for a day. They also would not do that now. End now of 3rd attempt... I left having wasted an hour of vacation time from work.

Next interlude was with Honda Care of Gilbert. First trip to show them the problem, second trip to leave the car on a Saturday. This was close to my house so my neighbor picked me up and took me home. She also took me to pick it up around 5. The seat now hung out six inches! They said they would have to order another part and I would have to come in AGAIN!

Well, that was 4 attempts and five trips to fix something that shouldn't have been wrong. I didn't have another Saturday come along that I could waste so now I'm at end of lease... Seat back is completely off as it hung down lower and lower until we took it off. Went back to Tempe Honda this week to inquire if they would fix it or now charge me because it was out of warantee. Even though the saleman remembers the problems, Tempe Honda will do nothing to fix it and of course they will charge me if I want to return the vehicle to them after the lease is up.

Case was turned into to mother Honda and they didn't even bother to contact any of the sevice folks or salesman involved. They won't stand behind their product either.interesting too that this seat back issue is a known problem on Pilots.

My opinion of Honda has lowered quite a few notches and this issue with Tempe Honda coupled with a second issue (reported separately) regarding misleading information from the leasing staff... Has made it sure that I will not ever do any business with Tempe Honda.
