Linden, michigan used cheap & wrong size for alternator replacement

I had an alternator replaced last year. Trouble started with it after about 3 and half months. When we went back they told us it was fine accordding to the testing they did. Every since then the voltage was not right..
A few days ago the vehicle was dead. The AAA person that came out to tow the car said he knew it had to be the alternator. The battery was registering fine. We had it towed to the nearest repair (not Muffler Man)..
After a careful inspection we were advised that the alternator was not the right size (in volts/amps) for the vehicle, and was a very cheap one at that. They asked if we had maybe got the repair done at a Muffler Man near by. We couldn't believe it... We only got a 90 day warranty from Muffler Man. Not knowing alernators carry lifetime warranty's.
I called tha corporate office and talked with the head man (name withheld) and he told me there was nothing he could do. The store has already gone through two owners and the new one did not have to honor any warranty's or problems. He said we should have brought it back to Muffler Man and maybe he could help us out, (notice the word MAYBE).. And that was not in terms of $ only credit on future services... I DON"T THINK SO..
He asked for the Part # and when I gave it to him he said that was not a part that was aquired from the Muffler Man parts dept in Flint. He didn't know where it came from and the previous owner is no where to be found.
I had to pay $249.00 for a new alternator with a LIFETIME WARRANTY... About $3.00 less than the junk that was installed by Muffler Man.
I have the part and am now pursuing legal acton with the state and credit card company. Beware of the muffler man shoppes..
