Ripping Off the Elderly? Vehicles Warranteed w/o Owner Approval?

Cars & Transport

My 80 year-old mother was contacted on the phone about extending the warranty on the 2005 PT Cruiser she drives. The car is in my name, her daughter. I pay the payments and my mother drives my father who has cancer to and from the hospital every week. She thought it was a good idea to get the warranty as the car was nearly at the 36000 mile mark. She did not call me for advice but gave the salesman her bank account information and was debited $112.00 a month for the warranty.

Recently she called me and asked me for help because National Auto Warranty Services would not stop the withdrawals from her bank account because they had put the warranty in my name. Thus, I had to call and cancel the contract. She did not know the warranty was in my name, she was paying for it. I never heard from anyone about a warranty in my name, if I had, since I work for a reputable auto warranty company, I would not have agreed to the terms.

I called and spoke to them and was told that my mother must have given them my name... If she had, why did they think it was alright to debit someone else's account? None of it makes any sense. Of course, now I know that the company is nothing but a ripoff. I've spoken to people where I work and NAWS is well known for there bad business. I've seen the reports on the news and searched the Internet and see all the bad reports.

I will be fighting to get the contract voided and their money back. Ripping off the elderly is just the lowest. Threatening to mess up their credit really stinks too, not to mention all the time and hoops I have to jump through to get the contract cancelled.

If anyone has any advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.
