Midas Broke My Car To Get More Money! Rip offs!

On I had my car towed to Midas on Fort Crook in Bellevue, Nebraska. I used them because my ex-husband stated they work with you on payments and were good. I'd used them before, but never liked how new things were broke when they did repairs. My serpentine belt had broke. It broke because it was old and dry/brittle. I had been putting off replacing it and was simply rubbing a bar of soap on it so it would stop squealing when I drove.

The tow cost me $60. When they gave me the "report" on what needed to be done, suddenly my tensioner assembly is "bad" and, quote "trying to throw the new belt." This is bogus... There was nothing wrong with the tensioner assembly and that wasn't why the other belt broke. The belt broke purely from being old/dry. So, they took it upon themselves to try and scam a lady for even more money. They wanted almost $400 (total) to replace the tensioner assembly, belt and the cost of the tow! Ridiculous!

I refused to have it "repaired" and told them to just replace the belt. They charged me a total of $180 for replacing the serpentine belt, including the $60 towing fee.

I feel they broke the tensioner assembly when they were replacing the belt as there was nothing wrong with it previously.instead of admitting they broke it, they tried to weasel another $220 out of me to fix it.

I'd suggest avoiding this shop for repairs, as you end up getting more things added to your plate than the original repair. For example, my cruise control doesn't work now after they tried to repair my brake light problem. After fixing the serpentine belt, the air bag light was on and won't go off now. They did my brakes the summer of as I was heading cross country and wanted to be sure we were safe, and suddenly it turned into a $500 job.

Needless to say, I will NEVER use their shop again because this time I am POSITIVE I was ripped off. Before, I wasn't so sure additional things were being added. Maybe it was because I was a woman who stupidly had the car towed instead of just driving it slowly to their shop. Had my baby with me and just wanted to be safe. That safety cost me big!
