Service Ripoff - Car not fixed & suddenly the dealership's all closed up

Cars & Transport

I took my 2002 Envoy in for service 2 weeks ago to Guy Schmidt. I have had my car serviced there for years without a problem. I told them what was going on (truck would turn over but not start) and they ended up replacing the fuel pump - $1500.00. A day later went to drive to work - car stopped a block and a half from my home and would not start just like it had been doing before. They sent out a mechanic to replace an electronics module in the steering column. The car started and ran for another couple of days when it died again at my office. Paid $300 to have it towed home. When it finally would restart I took it immediately back to the dealer. They had the car for 4 1/2 days finally telling me they could not duplicate the problem and that it was starting and running fine. Took the car home... Ran fine for 3 days. Then, went to go home on a Friday night... Same thing wouldn't start. My wife came to pick me up and we videotaped exactly what was going on with the Truck in anticipation of showing this vid to the service guys.

Here's where the twist comes in. I finally got the truck to start on Sunday and decided while it was still running to take it and park it outside the dealership and wait until service dept. Opened on Monday morning so that it would be there bright and early. When I dropped it off I noticed something unusual about the dealership... There were no cars in any of their lots AND there were handwritten signs everywhere saying closed. I thought well its Sunday but it was strange that there were no cars anywhere on their lot.

Monday morning rolls around - I get up early and drive, way out of my way mind you, to the dealership... No one is there... Nothing... Called... Got voicemail for every department and the same handwritten CLOSED signs are everywhere. My thinking now is that the dealership is going out of business. I wish they would have had the common decency to tell me this and I would have taken the truck to another dealership to have my service performed. As of now they have breached their written service guarantee with me and I am disputing all charges with my credit card company... The next thing is a civil suit in Glendale Superior Court. If they would have been honest form the start and said they were closing, this all could have been avoided, but I guess they didn't think honesty was the best policy... Even for a loyal customer who has been taking his car there for years.

If you've had service performed at Guy Schmidt... Beware, if the repairs are faulty you can't return it to them to have them remedy the problem.
