Tire Factory, Ocean Tire & Auto Service
Paid buyer inspection without report, double charging

Cars & Transport

Most recent issue related to pre buyer inspection for a Toyota Chinook.initially, i was told a complete inspection and report detailing what results that inspection would be given. After the inspection was completed, no report or detail of inspection was given and they would not sign or give additional information to present to buyers.

Only verbal info on testing was given plus a brief comment on receipt about brakes and front end being OK. Owner Doug Orr-who relieves the manager John, said inspection includes: exhaust, front end, brakes, lights, tires, oil leaks and a test drive only.

Manager John told me they did the compression check on all 4 cyclinders and rattled off some numbers off the top of his head that he could not verify later after checking garbage cans! Normally they do not do the compression check without further charge. After a brief discussion with John about the shortcomings of the inspection&including the fact that i was already aware of a badly worn brake lining on the front left caliper (which had recently been locked-up and replaced), and a damaged left tie rod end with a smashed grease cap and missing grease nipple—both of which should have been visually obvious omissions—in their verbal report and receipt.

After pointing out that the inspection and report were both sadly lacking, and after returning for the 2nd time without any hope of resolution (they refused to reprint the receipt (or give me any other documentation) with a detailed list of what was checked, and the results.

After calling Doug the following Monday to verify what should have been checked. Finally, that Monday i called John who restated nothing more would be done to create a report of any sort. Since Ocean Tire is an independent business AKA: Tire Factory, without any corporate governance reporting... Besides reporting their automotive licensing to the State, i am reporting here as well.

Previously, last winter i also had the misfortune to experience their poor service and excessive double charging when i had to tow my non-starting vehicle there for an issue i believed and directed them to repair related to the fuel pump. The first day they gave it back to me i could not get it restarted after already paying them. Next day they did replace the fuel filter, again charging me once again! $200 for a clogged fuel filter and it just removed, not even replaced! I will never ever go there again for anything and will tell anyone interested to avoid their shop.
