A recall was issued on 2003 - 2005 Nissan Muranos. Recall was on defective alternators for vehicles with certain VIN number range. An alternator failed and the dealer would not honor the recall citing it was already replaced. This failure in question resulted in same reason as for the original recall. Nissan would not honor the claim citing the replacement alternator (JUL 06) was only warranted for 12 mos or 12K miles. The replacement alternator failed in JAN 08 also damaging the battery. Therefore I replaced the alternator myself. After filing arbitration with Nissan Motors, and seeking reimbursement for $275 dollars citing that the replacement alternator should not have failed in such a short amount of time and also for the same reason that justified the original recall notice.

After many e-mails and wasted time, a rep from Nissan called me and denied my claim because I replaced it myself. There reason was that I should have had it replaced by a service center or a Nissan dealer and then I should have submitted my claim. Dealer cost and/or a service center cost to replace this alternator and battery would have exceeded $600. During this type failure, the vehicle is NOT driveable and I did not have time nor mopney to spend on tow charges. I am still seeking reimbursement from Nissan for $275 as I can provide receipts to validate purchase of replacement alternator and battery.
