Ken Barff ripped us off and then rubbed it in our face!

We purchased a car at Ken Garff Audi almost two years ago. It was our first time buying a car.

At the time and under the relentless pressure of the used car sales team, it seemed like a pretty good price. The salesman used what I now recognize as every standard sleazeball trick in the book ("I really want to sell this car to my brother, but he can't afford it"; "So you work in the [X] field, I've always been fascinated by that"; "Sure this car has almost 100K miles on it, but these engines go 250K-300K"; etc.).

Within two months the transmission completely gave out. The repair would have cost over $5000 without the extended warranty we mercifully purchased (about the only smart thing we did that night). However, the warranty would only replace with a refurbished transmission or charge us $1200 for a "new" transmission (which was also refurbished, just refurbished in Germany!).

We went with the regular refurbished transmission and it took over TWO MONTHS to get our car back!

By that time we had decided that this was all the money Ken Garff was going to leech out of us. So we went back and offered to trade in the car for a Honda (there is a Honda dealership right next door). I presented my case ("Give us $10000 for the car you charged us $12000 for and you just might salvage some goodwill with your customers [still a loss of $2000 on our part]. If not, we will make it our mission to expose you as a lemon-dealer.") and the "trade-in manager" summarily dismissed it.

The true affront was this: the trade-in manager told me that he would give me $5500 for the car because that's the max he could get at auction. When I told him this was ridiculously low he replied, "I won't give you more because I don't sell cars like that [i.E., with higher mileage, etc.]." I promptly reminded him that he HAD sold this exact car (not one like it) to ME less than six months ago. Naturally he had no response.

We have since done other major repairs to the car and the warranty has paid for itself no less than ten times over. I just wanted to let people know to avoid Ken Garff Audi in Orem or at least call them on what they actually paid for the used car they are trying to sell you (no more than 50% of what they are asking).
