Greenbrier VW
Incorrect Diagnosis Charging for unneeded repai

Cars & Transport

I took my 2004 VWJetta TDI in to VW because my engine was running poorly. On the third day, i was told that i had bad fuel, and that they were charging me $300.00 to come up with this diagnosis. After i dropped my fuel tank, cleaned it out, and replaced the fuel filter, the engine still ran the same way. I took the vehicle back in to the dealership because i had the same problem, and after 1 week, the dealership explaines to me that 2 cylinders were lower on psi than the manufacturer specs, so they wanted to pull the head. They explained that they believed that a hole was burned in to one of the pistons, so they would pull the head to inspect, and if they found no problem there, they would reassemble the car at no charge.

Guess what, no damage, as the shop misdiagnosed my vehicle, and there is TOO much psi in the cylinders instead of too LOW. They have found that the camshaft is bad and needs to be replaced. Alldata claims that the labor to replace the camshaft is 3.0 hours by book time, yet VW wats 15 hours, because they already removed the head, although the Alldata book states that the head stays on for replacement of the camshaft.

I had the complete dissatisfaction of sitting down with the owner of the company, Mr. Owens, and the operations manager, Vic Duarte. As all of my corespondence with was with Vic, he decided that he wold lie to my face about all of our conversations in front of the owner Mr. Owens.

At this time, I have contacted VW od America, and await their word on what to do from this point. As Alldata saus the total labor bill is $520.00, Vw wants to hit me for 1199.00 in labor, plus the $300.00 i have already spent for the original misdiagnosis. Any bum can give me an incorrect diagnosis, however agter 10 years with AAMCO, i thought that the dealer would be the place to go.
