Clear Lake Volkswagen
VW - Not a Safe or Economically Good Decision

Cars & Transport

I am writing in regards to "Lisa from Houston's" story. I to made the mistake of purchasing a VW. We bought a "demonstrator" model 2006 Passat from Clear Lake VW. We traded in a perfectly good Ford Expedition, because we thought it would be more economical to get into a smaller car. Man, were we wrong.

I have owned VW bugs, busses, and golf's as I grew up. I've always had a liking for them. UNTIL NOW...

First of all, we were robbed on our trade-in. But we were optimistic, hopefully making up for it with the gas savings and lowered maintenance issues that are advertised with the purchase of a VW. We also were bamboozled by their sales department in thinking we were getting a "luxury" model addition when we truly only got the "value" edition.

But, that is just the kicker! One Day (yes-One Day) after we had the car, my wife figured out that the windshield wipers didn't work. It was raining, dark-around 6 pm, and during Houston rush hour traffic. Drove it straight to the dealer. They were not responsive and resisted a loaner vehicle, while they kept our vehicle to service it. Three days later, they still hadn't pin-pointed the problem. So what do they do, replace all the motors and controller. Said it was coincidence, the windshield wipers worked before we bought the vehicle. They just failed within one day.

I told them to keep the vehicle until they did a thourough top to bottom inspection on the vehicle. They supposedly inspected the vehicle, then returned it to us.

We have since had numerous problems with the vehicle in the five months that we have owned it. We have had additional windshield wiper problems, replacement of open/close door lock switches which concluded with rattles and noises in door panels-wrong switch was installed-speaker didn't work, engine overheating service soon warnings, loose radiator hose, A/C not blowing cold air and a moldy smell.

We have had the car in the shop a minimum of five times. Currently, it is in the shop now. They used some sort of chemical to try and rid the car of the moldy smell. We were told that the car would only smell of chemicals for 24-48 hours. It's been three weeks and it still has a chemical odor as bad as when I drove it from the service center three weeks ago.

As I write this, my wife and my children are waiting to see the doctor. They have had a persistent cough for-guess how long? Three Weeks! Of course, Clear Lake VW will say it is another coincidence. Just like the Windshield wipers.

Anyway, I have had it. I am going to contact VW North America today. I have inquired about the Texas Lemon Law. I am going to file a complaint with the BBB and maybe even contact my local news agency to run a story.

I will pursue this until VW repurchases the vehicle from me, and I will never look toward buying another VW ever again. I will also do what I can to keep any family members, close friends, or coworkers from purchasing a for sure headache.
