Is a ripoff scam with inferior service and auto parts

My car was towed to the Lindenhurst location with dead distributor. They could not look at car until 3 days later because the only employee who did electrical work was unavailable (at a training seminar). The remaining employees tried to install a rebuilt distributor and it turned out to be deader than the part I brought in. Three days later, the "Real" technician tried again to install the part and they call me to pick the car up. I paid for the "repaired" car and started it up in the parking lot. It barely ran and is made a tremendous knocking sound. I stormed back in and the service manager told me that was the "best they could do".

I demanded to see the mechanic who worked on the car and after convincing him that I did not have defective valves, he realized that he should set the timing and "tune" the engine. I left an hour later with the car running reasonably well, but no where near the way it ran before they touched it. I also found out that the part was only guaranteed for 90 days. I used the car sparingly, but my daughter had to go to North Carolina for seasonal employment. Sure enough with less than 3000 miles on the car since the repair, she got stranded in rural North Carolina.

She called the store and I attempted to get a hold of the general manager through the company website but they have refused to acknowledge my complaint. Meanwhile, a mechanic in the the middle of nowhere managed to cheerfully order the part, install it, and return the car to its original excellent running condition. I guess he didn't attend the Pep Boys "seminar". A $500 part should not fail so quickly and the car should run correctly when it leaves the Pep Boys' parking lot.
