Since my car stalled and I was unable to re-start, and I was around the corner from a Pep Boys automotive repair center, I pushed the car into their parking lot. It seemed like the convenient, logical thing to do. Little did I know how big a mistake that was.

They said I need an engine tune-up and replace the distributor and fuel filter, and probably overcharged me. I also had the timing belt replaced (it was probably time to do it, based on mileage of the car).

Now I can start the car, but have a new set of problems. This car has never been a "high performance vehicle" but now I have less power than before, 20-30% less fuel efficiency, the car sometimes backfires, and is sometimes unresponsive when depressing the accelerator while in traffic lanes. And they can't figure out why I have these problems.

A local dealership tells me Pep Boys installed the timing belt incorrectly (teeth not lined up properly with the gears) and the distributor was turned all the way to one side to compensate for the first mistake. And they installed defective parts. Going back to Pep Boys, now they want to charge me nearly $200 to correct their mistakes. They did correct their mistakes (at least they tell me they did) - without charge - but I still have the same problems described above. And Pep Boys can't figure out why!
