Ripoff on repairs

In late 2000 I took my 1988 Oldsmobile 98 for repairs. The Mechanic saw me as the dumb woman and kept using phrases like "don't worry darlin', I'm gonna take good care of you".

I told them to CHECK the car out and let me know what the problem is before repairing anything. "Oh ok darling, we will give you a call" he said. 3 or 4 days later I get a call saying that my car was ready and the bill was $2700. I told them I wanted an estimate first!!! Long story short, they demanded their money and I refused to pay (why would I authorize $2700 worth of work on a car that only cost me $300???).

They filed in court. And judgment was against me by default (I could not get off work (I work in the medical field). I still refused to pay. After many calls from the shop, I cut a deal with them. I would give them the title to the car. I wanted to get this over with! So they said if I gave the title, they would call it even.

So I signed the title over to them and all appeared to be resolved until I reviewed my credit report. There is a judgement listed against me for $2700.By this time, the shop had closed because others had come forward with complaints of fraud or ripoffs. They abandoned the shop and left town and no one knows how to reach any of them.

So now I have this on my credit and they are nowhere to be found to get a statement to get this removed.
