Cars & Transport

During a promotional sale at JN Cheverolet, they said in their advertisement, that they would give $3,000 for any vehicle they could crush with the Maui Monster truck. Since the engine siezed up, due to overheating, my car would be perfect for this type of trade. I went to the dealership and told them the exact nature of my problem. They agreed to take my car for $3,000.00. That only left $1500.00 for me to pay off.

Next step was to find myself a vehicle that wouldn't be too expensive. I was directed to a 2001 S10 Chevy Blazer with a price tag of $14,000.00. I thought this would be perfect for myself. They took the Blaze to the tent and proceeed to SLASH the price. They took off $2,000. The blazer is now only $12,000. They then said we are going to give you $4,500.00 for your trade in. Great now the old car is payed off. I have nothing to carry over.

Time to finance. After several hours waiting on their people the main sales guy emerges with a financial advisor. We are having trouble, due to your debt to income ratio. "You might want to go through your own bank" they say to me. I take their advice. But before I do they have me sign back up financing. I go to my bank with the purchase order and I am turned down immediately. I call the dealership and inform them that I was turned down. They sudgest that I try another bank. This time I am able to sit down with the loan officer.

We get through the paper work and the loan officer informs me that I will have to pay out-of-pocket for the amount over market value. That is $5,000.00. After nearly choking on this figure, I explain that I need 100% finiancing. The loan officer said that they could only finiance the market value of the vehicle. So off I went to check on the back up financing.

I asked the dealership about the exaggerated price of the vehicle and was told "the bank doesn't sell vehicles, they don't know what they are talking about". After going multiple rounds with the salesman he finally came back an graciously took off another $1,000.00 and. 26% on the interest rate of 16.25 and added another 6 months to the loan.

At the end of it all, I will have paid Approximately $19,000.00 for a truck that kelly blue book valued at $7,300.00. The moral of the story don't sign a back up contract or any other with out knowing the market value of the vehicle.
