At 74,000 miles we suffered major transmission failure

Cars & Transport

We bought our Saturn SW2 (manual trans.) brand new at Saturn of Oxnard, CA in May 1997. We took good care of the car and did our regular servicing.

In September at 66,000 milles, we had Saturn of Oxnard perform a major end-to-end servicing to the tune of $2,400.00.

In good faith we paid it thinking we would get a few more good years out of this car. Less than two weeks ago at the time of this report my car suffered severe transmission failure.

After paying to get it towed home and again to Saturn (now in Ventura, CA) I was informed it would cost, ready for this-$4,000. Plus to replace the transmision.

I would also have to pay to again replace the clutch (I paid $500.00 in September) due to the fact the trans. Fluid leaked out and ruined it.
I have been trying to work with them to find a fair and equitable solution, but it has been the same response, "the car is old" and "things just happen".

I wasn't looking for a free transmission just a fair price replacing it considering the money spent servicing it less than a year ago and the fact this catastrophic failure should not have happened so soon in this car's life.
My advice-BUYER BEWARE!!!
P.S. Has anyone else experienced this dilemma? PLMK how it turned out for you.
