Car Hop
Attempted ripoff and retaliation by dishonest girfters

Cars & Transport

In early April ester weekend, I bought a 94 Buick from Car Hop. They were sure to tell me over and over again of the 48 hour 150 mile return no questions asked policy they had. ONE HOUR after I drove away from their lot, the car ceased to run. It sounded like the battery so I got a jump from my auto insurance guy. I and a friend drove about 3/4 of a mile after the jump before the car stopped again. I had to call my mother to come and give me a jump, and when she got there it became obvious that it wasnt the battery, it was the alternator.

Car Hop tells you over and over again how all the cars are checked by a mechanic. WRONG! The alternator was blown and no good. I had to sit in traffic for 4 hours waiting for a tow truck to come. I made sure to hightail it up there on Saturday - because the following Sunday was Easter. When I got there the guys all tried to tell me that they had no idea the alternator was no good, and most of all, they had the nerve to be showing the car to a young couple when I got there.

They told the young couple that the window (which had stopped working before the alternator went) was down to show off the ALL-LEATHER interior and mentioned nothing about the car not being able to even start. I informed them I biought the car last nite and told them what happened to me and how I was being treated - Car hop refused to refund my money telling me I had to wait 7-14 days - something ELSE they don't tell you when you buy, and they took off. I had to argue with the dishonest sales rep and the manager before my money was refunded. Then to top it all off, the company that they finance through starts to enter stuff on my credit report. I was told this was common practice from them. I went to a reputable dealer and got my car that next monday and have had no problems.

Watch out - Car Hop preys on people who work but don't have good credit. It seems like every car they sell stops within a week and definitely within the first month. A dealer my grandfather knows told me that that is their practice. He said they sell bad cars knowing they will stop becuase all they want is to get a negative mark on your credit bureau that you will have to pay before you can go elsewhere. To top it all off, the salesman tried to tell me that there is no way to tell with diagnostics that the alternator is bad— YEAH RIGHT! Don't believe the disclaimer they love to add once they see you have told on them— I DID buy a car from them the Friday before easter, and it WAS NO GOOD!!!
