General motors still refuses to accept responsibility, for it's poor 3.4 3.1 and 3.8 v6 engine failures. These repairs can run from $600 to over $3000 depending on extent of damage. I have had dealer's tell me quitely that they fix many of them. One mechanic went as far to quitely tell me these are high paying bread and butter repairs for the dealer's averaging over $600 in labor charges alone. General motor's has known about this problem, since it started in 1996 and has continued through if not longer. Also interesting to note, that 1996 was the first year for their mandtory dex-cool antifreeze. It, s that orange liquid leaking under your gm vehicle. Some auto engineer's believe this accelerates the intake and head gasket failure. There are class action suit's being started. Check the web out for more info on dex-cool. Usually these repairs start showing up shortly after the warranty expires, how convient for gm. One thing that really fired up my a— was when they charged me twenty dollars for two fifty cent, dime sized rubber -o - rings to repair leaking fuel rail, s another engineering marvel they came up with. The gm part's man said to me don't buy our gaskets for there the same as the factory uses. He said buy fel pro because there a little better, than ours. I also was told to stop using dex-cool, and flush system out, install the original green antifreeze, use fel pro gasket's, use heavier oil, and most important sell it while it's running decent, and hope no one hears those little tell tale engine knock's you hear every time you start it up, i didn't say that! Yes i did. You remember don"t get mad get even!
