Ripoff Conned into unnecessary work by sales tactics

I bought a 1996 Dodge Dakota in February. After purchasing this vehicle I promptly took it to Precision Tune Auto on 2/02 for a full "Used Car 65-Point Diagnosis." One of the results from this was that I needed some brake work. Precision Tune commented that I needed a "drivers side caliper, rotor, and front pads" to get my brakes into good condition. The total for the repairs at precision tune came to $358.80.

I thought this might be a little high and didn't have this much money at that time, so on 2/12 I took my car into the South Marietta Pkwy Just Brakes location because I have heard the advertisement for their $99.88 brake special. I asked if they could do an inspection to see how my brakes were and they said the only way they could look at my brakes was if I authorized them to go ahead with the standard $99.88 brake procedure. Reluctantly I signed up for this service because I figured I could use the new brake pads anyway. I sat in the waiting room for a while until I was called in to look at my truck. When I got into the workshop I saw my brake components broken down into dozens of tiny pieces. I was informed that almost all the parts in my brake system were "in bad shape and in need of replacing." The cost of this service was $790. A jump of $433 from the Precision Tune estimate. I told them it was too much and told them to put my truck back together. I was then told that it was not safe for me to drive the truck in the current condition. Not knowing much about cars, I believed this lie and accepted the work. The only reason I had the money at this point is because I had just sold my previous car.

I had not thought much about this entire situation until Fox 5 News' I-team did an investigation on this company on 2/20. It listed numerous accounts of this exact situation happening to other people in the Atlanta area and throughout the US. I then looked online to find out that this has been happening to a lot of people. This company is ripping people off due to our lack of automotive knowledge. I will never go back to a Just Brakes Location in my life... Nor will I ever recommend them to anyone I know... On the contrary, I will highly discourage this company's business.
