Ford Explorer 1997

Cars & Transport

I purchased a 1997 Ford Explorer with 11,000 miles in November of 1998. Just recently, with only 38,000 miles, the timing chain went and I had to replace the entire engine. The warrantee was 3 years or 36,000 miles. I called Good Brothers Ford of Randolph, MA and Ford Motor Company, who both simply stated "sorry the warrantee is up, there is nothing we can do". I still have a year and a half of car payments to make and felt I needed to look into this further. I have been told by several mechanics that the timing chain should not be an issue in a '97 vehicle with only 38,000 miles. I have tried to obtain access to an engine warrantee to see if the part or parts which caused the engine to seize. Were warranteed for a longer period. I plan to contact a few local T.V. Stations to seek help with this matter. I feel that Ford should compensate me and my family in some way. After all, the Explorer is suppose to be one of their top of the line vehicles!
