Morrow Ford Lincoln Mercury, Inc
Rips off consumer with unredeemable warranty! Offers $108 on $2,600 repair!

Cars & Transport

I purchased a brand new F-150 4 wheel drive pickup truck from Morrow Ford on Feb. 08,01. The salesman verbally told me it came with a 7 year warranty on all major systems - transmission, engine, etc. I received no copy of the warranty in the package of papers they gave me and surprise - I was charged $1,499 for the warranty (I noticed the itemized charge only after going through my papers a week after the deal was done). That amount was deceptively rolled into a loan I'm still paying on!

I figured a 7 year warranty through Ford was worth the money so I decided not to make an issue of it, after all the truck was $26,000, what's a bit more? I moved to TN during that 7 year period and on Oct. 27th noticed a slight slip in the transmission. Having two vehicles, I parked the truck and as soon as possible took it to the local Ford Dealer. When the warranty information was faxed from PA to TN, the TN service manager told me that it was NOT the Ford warranty I thought I had, it was through a company that had gone out of business! The transmission needed rebuilt or replaced at a cost of $2,600!

I immediately called the Pennsylvania dealer and was told by one Jim Fife that a number of people were in the same situation - had been sold a worthless warranty by Morrow's - and that they (Morrow's) had been offering to pay 1/2 on the repair. Once he found out I was living in TN, his tune changed. "I'll call you back after discussing this with the manager." I figured, okay, they should cover the entire $2,600 but if they come up with half, I'm only out $1,300 so half is better thasn nothing.

Oh, he called back alright. He said: "Sir, I'm afraid we're not going to be able to help you very much, we can give you a maximum of $108 towards the repair." $108 on a $2,600 repair? He tried to say that it was because of my mileage and length into the warranty - I had only 50,000 miles which is below average driving for 4 years of driving and 3 years left on the warranty! Half the repair? Maybe that's fair. But $108 is a total insult! How do you spell it again? Oh yeah RIPOFFF! Ripoff Morow Ford!

Any ethical, honest company would offer the same deal to someone who trusted them with their business, regardless of whether they moved or not!

BTW: I contacted the national Ford customer service and since all Ford dealerships are independently owned, Ford won't get involved in warranty disputes over waranties sold through a dealer.
