Drive shaft Company Rip Off

Brookline Machine in Portland, Maine made me a new driveshaft for my van when I actually needed only to have mine lengthened. No big deal, twice the money, but hey I need the truck to be right.

After install I had a lot of vibration. Over the course of a year, I changed bearings, checked driveline angles, had tires balanced, you name it. This because every time I called them, they assured me that I had done something wrong, it can't be the shaft.

Finally, I take the shaft back to them to have it checked. I go back a week later and the clerk tells me it wasn't straight, I must have bent it. I ask to see the manager when they want to charge me for repairs. I explain the situation, he gets indignant and tells me I can pay for it or leave it.

I pay for it, take it home and find that the weights are almost 180 degrees from where they were. (if it was bent and they straightened it, the weights wouldn't be far off, if it was balanced properly to begin with) I call the district rep, tell him the story and stop payment on the credit card.

He tells me not to worry, I won't be charged. He appologises for the rudeness of the manager. When the dispute is resolved in thier favor, I again call the district rep. He says he was overruled by his boss. I get a second opinion from another shop and he agrees with me. Too bad, used to be a good shop.
