The Desert Protection Package Scam

I decided to go to the Hyundai dealership where I had gotten my wife's Elentra.

They had a deal advertised with the following:
MSRP $18,104
Clearance Center Discount $-1,709
SALE PRICE: $16,396
Power Loyalty Discount -$2,000 (got a car from that dealer)
Owner Loyalty Discount -500 (hyundai owner)

Total after discount $13,896

In the ad they have (if you go thru HMFC) an additional $400 off if you're a college grad (which I will be, but I don't want to use HMFC), and if you're military, you can get $500 off too. So the ad states you can get the 2005 Hyndai Tucson for $12,995.

I had them appraise my trade in, and they valued it at $6,500. If you look at my previous complaint mentioned above, you'll see that the original deal I took to Avondale Hyundai was now seeming like it was going to happen with this dealership.

However, one of the managers had stated that the $2000 off was only available if I traded in a hyundai, not if I was a previous customer. Good thing a finance sales manager came in and had a different story. He stated that the $2000 was only if you had purchased a car from that specific dealer before. (I had) - It's sometimes a moral victory for consumers to have a lie exposed right in front of you with the person standing there.

However, he added in his own twist. After I did up all the numbers for them, they said I forgot to add in the "Dealer Protection Plan" for $1,750. Well, I'm smart enough to know that if it's not in writing or advertised on the car breakdown, that it's not automatically included (just as if A/C wasn't on the list, it's not included in the price). Anyway, they said that the MSRP of 18,104 doesn't include the DPP and that it's on all their cars. Yeah - sure it is. Unlike my other rip off rant, this was easy. I explained to him that if that was the case, I wanted to see the last 3 Tucson's that sold with detail of the DPP in the deal (Sales Contract, whatever).

Obviously that wasn't going to happen, so I left. He didn't want to sell me the car for the deal advertised, and like most of the things I've found in regards to DPP, it's a ripoff and just another way to pad up the price.

So, unless I win the lottery sometime soon, I think I'll be sticking with my Matrix for a while. Though it has almost 84k miles on it, it still seems to be working fine.
