Ripoff! Liar, thief, dishonest!

In early August, the Check Engine light came on in my car. I took my car to Auto Check on the 14th, at which time they told me the Charcoal Canister and another part (forgot the name) needed replacing at a price tag (parts and labor) of seven-hundred and some change.

I then called Toyota for a quote of the same parts (& labor), who quoted me five-hundred and some change. I called Jim (the manager of Auto Check) and asked why he was so much higher and he said I must've given Toyota the wrong parts, to which I explained I got the part names from him and translated accordingly. I then decided to go pick up my car and take it to Toyota for a second opinion.

Toyota called me a few hours later and said they had tested thep parts in question and found no fault.in fact, they reported the problem was a loose gas cap. I paid my money to them and picked up my car. Irritated, I called Jim and asked for an explanation, to which he repllied, "The light will come back on within a week".

A week later... No light. I called him up (fishing for a refund), and he said the light will definitely come back on within a month. It's now been a month (65 miles per day put on the car) and no check engine light.

I called him this morning (asking for a refund) and he proposed I bring the car back in for them to hook up to their system again, to which I replied, "No thanks, I don't trust you guys. I just want my money back". He stated that he stands by his diagnostic and will not refund me my money.

Once he received my complaint via the BBB, he gave me my money back (excluding tax), but instisted that the light would come on.

It's been over 4 months now. I drive over 60 miles per day. No check engine light. Go figure. What's really funny is very shortly after he refunded my money, they put "We fix check engine lights" on their sign on the store front.
