Drive Time
The Biggest Hassle of my Life Nationwide

Cars & Transport

I fell for their lines as well. I bought a 2002 cavalier in February. Six months later it broke down on the side of the road. I had to towed to the nearest repair shop. I was told that there was something wrong with my transmission. I had to towed to another repair shop for diagnostics. Again, I was told that it was my transmission.

I could not believe it. I didn't even have 62,000 miles on my car. I had it towed (again) to a transmission shop. Then I got the call. My transmission was ruined. It started in the torque converter and then went downhill from there. I was devestated. I was all ready in debt for$1000 just to have it looked at and towed all these times.

I called Drive Time. They told me to bring the car to Douglasville, GA. I told him that I live in Duluth which is on the complete opposite side of town. He said that he could not help me.

So here I am trying to make $348 a month payments and my now $2700 repair bill. The people at the transmission shop felt sorry for me so they knocked the price down to $2000. But I still owed the two other places, plus had paid over $200 just for towing.

I get a call from the GM of the Marietta location. He said that they cannot help me because I "chose" to have it fixed elsewhere. I said that I didn't believe that a two year old car could have a bad transmission. I faxed him a notorized statement from the transmission people saying that there is no way I could have damaged a transmission like that in six months. I asked if I could make payment arrangements and he said no. I asked for any advise and he said that he could not help.

Did I mention that I work 3 jobs just to pay my normal bills??? Well, needless to say I could not work one of my jobs because it is in Marietta which is a good 30-40 minutes from where I live.

It took me four months to get my car out of the repair shop. I finally paid it off, but I was still 2 months behind on my car note. I get it out Tuesday afternoon. Then Wednesday night there is a knock at my door. They are repossessing my car. The tow guy called the people from Drive time. I had talked to someone at corporate that Monday. I told her that I had mailed one payment and would be mailing the last one on Friday. That was ok'ed throught mgmt at the corporate office. The lady I talked to Wednesday said that she didn't know who I talked to and that she didn't have any record of me speaking to anyone. I went crazy.

I gave her the name and the extension of the person that I talked to. She still would not do anything. So basically, they took my car. She stated that she would give me my car if I paid $1100. I told her that she was crazy.

I got on the phone the next morning to a lawyer. He faxed a letter to their corporate office letting them know of my intent to sue. A lady called and stated that she would give me my car for $285, the repo fee. I said that it was too little too late. I meet with the lawyer on Tuesday. I do not want their money. I do not want that piece of trash car. I told the lawyer that I want it off my credit and the payments that I made while it was in the shop. I never want to see Drive Time again. Then get this. I tried to stop payment on the check that I had sent, but it was too late. That went through. I was so mad.
