Corp rip-off!

I received a phone call from this company saying that we owed a past due/deliquent credit card debt. Was told they were calling from Rockford, Ill., but the area code was from Jamaica. Was told that the amount owed was $1100 and they would settle for $600. I told them I did not owe any past due credit card debts and send me proof.

They said that if I was refusing to pay they would have to send to collections (I thought they were collections) and I told them I was not refusing, but disputing the debt. Was told would have to send letter to their address disputing, she could not listen to my dispute over the phone. Then was told this debt dated back to 1986 and they needed me to verify my social security number and address.

Told them if they had a legitimate claim they already knew this information and refused to confirm. I figured this to be a scam from the moment I checked the area code and found it not to be in the United States. Reporting this to the Illinois Attorney General, Virginia Attorney General and the news media to make people aware of this scam.
