Associates National Bank (Citigroup)
Ripoff Sold information on my paid and closed account to Citibank who send me collection notices saying I still owe money

Business & Finance

Dear sir or madam:

I opened an account with Associates National Bank my freshman year at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (1997) in order to pay for college expenses. Upon receiving federal financial aid and a scholarship the following fall (1998), I accepted a settlement from your company to close my account and I sent you a money order in the amount of $700 to clear my $1500 balance.

I was just recently offered another settlement from Citibank to pay off the same account. A friend of mine experienced a similar billing problem and reasoned that this mistake could be a result of you sharing your old accounts with Citibank before the settlements, payments, or cancellations were recorded.

Finally, I asked them to please review their records to see that my account was paid out and closed before the account information was given to Citibank or their collector.
