American Express is still at it! Random cancelling of card members continues

Business & Finance

Hi. My American Express gold card was summarily canceled this weekend (despite payments being made on time, decent credit report, etc.) and in searching for similar occurrences I have alas found too many others who've had this experience (though not in recent months). I've been through three "service" reps, via email through the site and via its @askamex Twitter account to try to get an explanation and there's been nothing other than a vague comment about my credit report being in disarray (I bought one, and it ain't).

So these questions remain:

*Is there a way to reach a real person who has the power to at least discuss the account with me?

*My member rewards points are frozen. Are they lost (I've heard yes in some places, no in others, and you can buy them back from still other hapless victims).

*What's the impact on my credit report if Amex cancels me without a good explanation?

I welcome any advice you care to offer. This is, dismayingly, a rather common ploy that AMEX is using and I can't for the life of me understand what it's up to. But I'd like to get it resolved and appreciate any and all input.
