Ripoff claiming that money is owed from a credit card in 1985

This camco company called me on Feb. 19, claiming that I owe money on some credit card from 1985. They said that they had my credit report (and that "by the way you have outstandingly good credit"). They new my name and social security #. They said they mailed me 3 letters by mail... Which they absolutely did NOT. They said they were going to attach these charges to one of my other credit cards. They also called again and left a message on my answering machine on Feb. 21 with a phone# and that it was urgent that I call them back.

I have not called them back. I am scared and armed with a tape recorder in case the phone rings again. Do you have any advice on what to do. Should I call a lawyer. Should I call my credit card companies. How do I protect myself? I do not know what to do or not do. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Never heard of this company before.
