Three unauthorized charges after ordering a gun online

Was I the victim of stolen card data? I ordered a gun online with my credit card on Friday, March 25. It arrived at my FFL dealer exactly 6 days later. But to my surprise, I then found three unauthorized charges on my credit card. My credit card company called to warn me of possible fraud and closed my account.

I needed that card the following week for a business trip. I couldn't use it. I had to pay my brother to fly with me and cover everything, since you can't go anywhere in this world without a credit card. I hadn't used that card for anything else around that time; it's only ever used for purchases above $1,000.

My credit card company wouldn't elaborate, but I did the math myself: Bud's Gun Shop's online credit card processing was the likely source. In fact, I later received an email from them acknowledging a number of customer complaints about this. Their notice said they were shutting down online card processing until they could determine whether they were responsible. Responsible? Yes, they are.

I'm sick of amateur companies with lackluster security. Pay real money and hire real companies that monitor financial transactions. If you can't guard against hackers, you destroy your own reputation. Now I have to deal with a possible stolen identity, which will cost me over $250 a year for identity theft protection from two different companies.
