Ripoff Slow posting of large payoff, It looks like they have signed to the dark side of the force

After years of good relations with MBNA's Electrical Engineer card, it looks like they have signed to the dark side of the force.

When my low-interest rate expired, they skyrocketed the interest rate to 27.98%. The enormous interest thus charged, ran me over the limit for a couple months, at a $39 fee each.

Then they stalled a payoff. I mailed two balance transfer checks from separate cards in the same envelope on December 16.By December 28, neither was posted on either the MBNA side or the other cards' side. I initiated duplicate electronic payments with the other companies. Real bad idea.

One duplicate payment succeeded, due to large credit available. The other resulted in the original balance transfer check bouncing. That credit card was kind enough to remove the bounce charge, when I explained their supervisor had said it sounded like I should do the duplicate.

When the statement came, I saw that the two mailed payments had a transaction date of December 24,8 days after mailing. Usually, my payments post in 3 days. The mailed payments had a post date of December 30,2 weeks after mailing and 6 days after the "transaction" date.

I called MBNA customer service. Explained the duplicate payoffs due to excessive post time. The girl claimed they always post within 24 hours, apparently implying I am blind. The girl (and supervisor I think, due to being put on hold) agreed to reverse the MBNA bounce charge "as a courtesy to me".

From the other usacomplaints.com, it looks like I was very lucky. I will be monitoring my current payment every day, as it also contains a large payoff check to zero the balance.
