American Express does not list a contact at its corporate office for customer to address complaints so customers are forced to air their concerns on line. This morning I spent over 26 minutes attempting to cancel a card I have not used in many months. I anticipated the transaction should not take more than three minutes. I was very insulted to have to listen to David the customer representative force his narrative on me on all the reasons why I should not cancel. His words (quoted) "I will not cancel the card unless you let me talk" and went on and on... I later spoke to Larry his supervisor and was treated in a similar fashion. I also am very concerned as I have a small credit from an overpayment yet David nor Larry seem act like I was not entitled to that money - which I believe is a violation of federal banking law. A little kindness goes a long way and they were about as rude as possible. Appears to me both David and Larry are making a sport of customer torture rather than being customer representatives.
