Filed law suit when there was no collection efforts and verfied return of non-service was not signed by processo

I received a letter on Verified Return of Non-Service from Marcadis and Associates PA, process server called Clarence Mack Magnificent dated 8th of april that was not even signed by him and he declares that under penalty of perjury that he tried to serve me and that the facts in it are true F.S. 92.525 (2). I am being charged $ 821.00 Dollars by American Express Bank for " legal charges" from the above mentioned attorney firm back from 03/11/09 of a law suit they filed against me that I didnt even know about until just this year 2010! The collection agency that American Express uses is called American Recovery Services, Inc or (ARSI) and they called me after a year to see if I would pay the debt. I made arrangements to pay the $ 17,000 dollars I owed the first time they called me to re-instate my Business Platinum American Express and all of the sudden this attorney firm Marcadis and Associates pops up out of no where sending me paperwork to sign and calling me saying I owe them legal fees and until now the lawsuit popped up on my equifax credit file a year later!!! The story from ARSI is that they tried to collect on me then they sent it to Marcadis and Associates, PA then they were unsuccessful and now it went back to the collection agency. My question is if I made the arrangements with the collection agency and at no time did I have any contact with the attorney firm, and even there process server was not succesful in serving me (they had the wrong address anyway) and didnt sign the Verified return of Non-service do I have to pay the legal fees for an attorney and a proccesor that did nothing?
