Business & Finance

I was strapped for cash right before the holidays. I considered an avenue that I never normally would. I looked for a instant approval loan on the internet. I used a Google search to find the names of what I thought would be the most reputable companies that provide this type of service. I decided against a loan after being approved. (the interest rate was out of control).

About two and a half weeks later, I see a facsimile of a check made out to clipcouponsCS.com for $19.93. Apparently, whether you take the loan or not, simply by applying, you are entered into a binding deal with this coupon company. I did not read the fine print and I got burnt.

I called the phone number provided and canceled the service. Upon doing so, I began to wonder what the $19.93 these scam artists harvested out of my account payed for. I mean, I hoped there was at least something I would get for my twenty bucks. I called customer service three times trying to garner this information. I got noting but vague answers and run-arounds.

I understand the principle of the matter. I signed the bottom line (clicked, in this case) before taking time to read the fine print. We live in a fine print world. Lesson learned.

As a side note, if these pirates want to continue jacking grandma and Joe-construction worker for twenty bucks apiece, so be it, as it seems to be their "legal right". However, when those scammed do call for answers, maybe have someone who speaks fluent English field the call. One would think they would have the sense and courtesy to hire a group of phone operators who speak the native language. This would make the process of explaining their deceit and trickery a lot easier for them. I know if I was running a phone/internet scam and targeting people in Sri Lanka or any other part of the Asian sub-continent, my operators would speak the language!!
