Foreclosure Threatened After Job Loss and Revoked Deferment

Citi-finance is a mortgage company to which I have been steadily paying a substantial amount of money every month for 12 years.
One month ago I lost my job.
I was offered a deferment of one month's payment, and I gladly accepted.
This morning a lady by the name of Caroline called wanting to know when she could expect payment. Not having a job, I had no answer.
She promptly informed me that she was revoking the deferment and commencing foreclosure.
I know that they are within the law to do this.
But I have never been spoken to like this in my life!
I am seriously considering letting it go.
I no longer care about my credit or about them.
The land and home are valued at 24k.
The loan has 52k remaining.
