Student Loan Reported Late After Payments Were Raised

Business & Finance

For everyone's information: in 2003 I took out a student loan for my daughter and started paying it back immediately. Approximately 2 years later they increased my payments (I was already paying more than was due) and I did not know. When I was finally made aware of this problem, it was instantly corrected and I again paid more than was due.

Now, 3 years after the fix, I'm buying a new house and realize they are reporting me as being late 5 times past 30 days and 1 time past 60 days. Keep in mind they got money from me every month. I've tried appealing to them twice, and my attorney and a credit rebuilding company once each; all have failed. They say they are correct in their reporting.

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that they are technically correct; it's still wrong to treat a borrower this way. There are many people out there who have chosen to completely ignore their debts and not pay them back at all. I'm paying back and have always been paying back. Let's also not forget that I could have chosen not to pay this back at all until after my daughter's graduation. If anyone out there has any advice, I'm listening!!!
