Wachovia
Poor customer service all around

Business & Finance

I've read many reports involving Wachovia... Although most of them seem to be issues with how they handle transactions via a "descending order" method.

My issue, however, is different in as much as I do not *have* an account with this particular bank because of their poor customer service, and I felt I should share this on this website.

Sometime in I got my first job and with it... Paycheques. At the time I did not have a bank account and had no interest in opening one due to my intense dislike of anyone but myself directly handling my finances...

Because of this, I cashed my payroll cheques through my grandmother's account, via deposit slips she would fill out and deduct "X" amount from my cheque deposited into her account, and I would receive cash back with the remaining amount. The same applied for my state and federal tax returns.

I continued to do this until early 2008 - always at the same branch because my grandmother and I both worked within walking distance of it at the time.

One day, I went in the bank proper to cash my federal tax return cheque and was blatantly refused service - from a bank teller, the information assistant, AND the supervisor/manager.

The reason for this being was that it was, and supposedly always HAD been "against their policy" to bank this way regardless of my grandmother endorsing this cheque. Being that it was a federal tax return cheque, no less, and well if THAT bounced... Lol yeah. Lol I know the economy's not so good but WOW. That'd be an alltime new low...

When I explained that I did not understand how it could be against their policy and asked if it had changed at some point recently, I was told - quite rudely and with an attitude - that it had ALWAYS been their policy, and that if a particular teller had done it before that it was their judgement call and not to be taken as bank policy.

The rudeness from these people - and myself by that point, I'll admit - upscaled drastically when I told them that I *still* did not understand how every conceivable teller could have gone directly against policy for SEVEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS... Apparently they seem to think I managed to have the *exact* same teller every two weeks for seven years... *boggles*

So in turn, I went down the street a bit to the grocery store, where my cousin cashed my cheque through his account with.

Two weeks later I opened an account with and have had no problems whatsoever with any transactions, cheques being cashed and posted promptly the next day, or customer service.

Because of this I would not personally recommend Wachovia in the least bit. I will never do business with them again and wholeheartedly encourage anyone who IS or *might be* to consider all possible options and downfalls before banking with them... Nearly everyone I know has had problems with them in one form or another.

A friend of my mother's used to work for Wachovia - not the same branch - when it was First Union and used to joke with us never to trust a bank with the initials "F.U." lol - and regardless of a name change and slight face lift, that seems to still hold true.
