Westminister Research Associates
Lucky winner of unclaimed prize money

Business & Finance

I received a check on 12-13 from WRA FINANCIALS stating that I was "the lucky winner of unclaimed price (prize was spelled wrong) money in the amount of One Hundred Thousand dollars." My name was randomly selected through a computerized ballot as a winner for the FOURTH QUARTER of 2008 Sweepstake draw.

I needed to call 416-825-5312 to activate the very real looking check that they sent in the amount of $4989.60. I did call to see what the hoax was all about and a lady told me she would activate my check and after I deposited it I was to call them back and find out how to pay the 3.8% Government recomended taxes on my winnings and then I would be mailed the $95,000.00.
I asked her how I could confirm that this was not a scam and she put me on hold and then came back and said to call her supervisor on Monday. Then she lost my connection. I tried to call back and tell her that she she should be ashamed of herself for trying to scam people especially at the holidays.
When I tried to call back no one would answer the phone.

The envelope was mailed from Canada with a Canadian stamp on it. The check was from WESTMINISTER RESEARCH ASSOCIATES One wall street, 33rd floor, New York, New York 10286. Note that it is named to look like the company WESTMINSTER research associates. They just added an I in the name so that you could mistake it for an actual company.

Please spread the word to those who don't have the internet to look up such scams.
