Check FRAUD BeWaRe!

So... I received a fancy letter in the mail accompanied by a check for about $5,000.in the letter it explained that i have been awarded grant money for a p.O.S. Sweepstakes. The letter and check look very official. Upon arriving at my bank to cash the check the teller runs the check through and it comes back as a fraudulent check. Unlike the gentlemen who already posted the bank would not allow the check to clear. If anyone knows of any suggestions about how to possibly prosecute or bring to light these con artists, i am open to all suggestions.in this time of turmoil for our country the last thing we need is more CROOKS...
