Credit Card Application Rejected Twice Over Student Verification

I had another frustrating experience with Citibank today. I am a student, and I have a good credit score of 700. I was so impressed with reviews of the mtvU card that I convinced myself to apply.

A week later I received a letter from Citibank saying they needed me to provide some documents for verification of enrollment, which I did.

Another week later, in the early hours, I received a call from one of the Citicard representatives. She asked me to fax a copy of my university ID card again. She inquired whether my ID card has any barcode on it. I said no, and she convinced me to fax it anyhow. She gave me the fax number 1-866-716-5137 and suggested that I fax it before 12:00AM that day. I sent the fax that very day from my office after 8:00PM in the evening.

After two hours, when I checked my mail, they had sent me a message regarding the application, saying "as they couldn't verify the information I've provided they're rejecting my application." This is the second time I have had such an experience with Citicard.

Earlier I applied for the Citi Platinum Dividend in July, and they rejected my application for the same reason, although I was at a different university in full-time status. Both times, my credit score was stunted to 610-620 as the reason for my rejection. I supplied all the information they asked me for.

I don't suggest Citicard to anyone. It's one of the worst financial institutions I've ever witnessed, and I think the employees don't even work. I have no doubt it's soon filing for bankruptcy.

Beware Citibank and its subsidiaries.
