Privacy Matters - Experian
Having problems with Privacy Matters? Why not call Experian's general counsel?

Business & Finance

My checking account was being billed monthly for a coded transaction that looked like a gas or retail purchase for $14.95. After two hours and five different people at my bank, the Bank of America, it turns out this is Experian's "Privacy Matters".

I have never been sent an email or mail statement indicating I am being billed for this "service."
I purchased copies of my credit report outright for the one time charge for areport, and was never told that I was entitled to a report under this fake service that they didn't want to point out I was being charged for surreptiously.

Bank of America refuses to help, and lectured me on financial responsibility for going through the 50-100 debit transactions on my account each month.

I had the same experience everybody else reports with 45 minute waits on the Privacy Matters and Experian customer service line with no answer, burning up business day cell phone minutes.

Experian's general counsel is publicly listed with the California Bar. (www.calbar.org) His name is Jason Engel and his phone is 714-830-5502. They answer on the second ring, and promise to have the person responsible call you back in 24 hours, which they also seem to have trouble getting done.

Mr. Engel is the legal representative of Experian, and the person you should contact before proceeding legally. Why not give Mr. Engel a call and make see if he can help you with your unanswered problem with Privacy Matters. Certainly his client is not purposely ripping us off. Perhaps a few more calls might help him focus his staff on this problem.
