Privacy Matters ripoff Experian's website automatically enrolled with a company called Privacy Matters they continued to take the money out of my checking account

Education & Science

Last year I went to Experian's website and the site asked if I wanted a credit report for $1.00. I clicked yes and submitted my debit card information.

I did get my credit report but then was automatically enrolled with a company called Privacy Matters.

Privacy Matters started to bill my $14.95 a month and I never caught it. I never caught it because nothing was ever sent to me, I got no emails, I got no letters, welcome packets, follow up material or any kind of reports.

Silently they continued to take the money out of my checking account until one day I logged up into my bank account information to look into a cashed check and there it was a charge for $14.95 for Privacy Matters. I called Chase bank and they kindly gave me the number for the company. When you call the company has a very long wait time to speak to customer serive. I put the call on speaker and proceeded with my work for 15 minutes. Finally, someone spoke to me on the phone and explained that I had "signed up" once I clicked on the credit report for a $1.00 and yes in fact they had been billing me for their "services", what services I asked the girl stated that if anything should go wrong or unusual with my credit that they would notify me that is the whole premise of the company.

I continued to call back and write and speak to supervisors for about a week and finally spoke to someone who knew what she was doing and she set up a credit of $14.95 for the 10 months I had been paying for "nothing".

Yesterday in the mail I got a $4.00 check that stated "As a welcome to Privacy Matters, we would like to extend an offer from 24 hour protect-plus, I called the 800 number provided and stated I wanted nothing to do with that company or Privacy Matters, the girl stated unless I cash the check, there was "no way" I could be enrolled.
Let's hope not.
