Harassing phone calls

This company calls every day to leave messages on my machine. Every message gets a return phone call from my husband promptly because it is concerning to us.
Yesterday at 2:58 P.M. An Urgent message was left to call before 5 o'clock. My husband called, as he usually does, to let the company know that he has never heard of this debitor, that they insist he owes money too back in 1993. They don't have the correct S. S# on my husband but they do have his name & address. They said that he was paying on this acc't up until last year sometime (which is obviously NOT correct), this debt is roughly $2,500.00. The phone call ended yesterday with the collection agency saying that they have his signature for this contract, my husband said to supply him with this signature and we will take it from there.

Today, we received another phone call saying that a signature was now impossible for them to obtain, but for us to make a copy of my husband's S.S. Card and fax it or mail it to them? My husband called the company back again and told them that he was being harrassed by them & to STOP the phone calls or we would get a lawyer.

We are not sure other than getting a lawyer, how to make a "Collection " company to stop calling. We have no problem paying off a lany legal debts as long as they are legitimate, but this company can not supply us with any information. Please help!
