Washington Mutual
Washington Mutual, the bank that returns your checks for no reason, and will not pay the fees from the third party

Business & Finance

On May 23rd, I set up a online transaction on my Washington Mutual account, to have money transfered to one of my checking account at another bank to theirs, the online website tells you it will take 3 business days, for the transaction to be completed. So on May 29th my transaction goes through, taking the money from my other account, and placing it in theirs, it is even listed on the transaction breakdown from Washington Mutual. This then makes my money become available in my Washington Mutual account, as per their online banking website.

So I write out all my checks to pay my bills, this including my rent check, and it goes for processing on 6/03, long after the transaction has processed, and on 6/03 they returned my check to my rental company, on the grounds that my funds were not available. I then get this nsf notice on 6/04 stating that my check was returned, because my funds were not available, and on the nsf notice, it tells me your available funds at this time are and it gives me the full balance of my account.

I then call Washington Mutual due to the fact that this information is incorrect, I deal with 5 different people, who give me 5 different stories, and they expect me to believe what they are saying. The first rep I spoke to said she did not know why my check was returned, and it looked like a banking error, the second one I spoke to who was her supervisor, told me that it was because it was the first external transaction I done off my other act before, and it was taking a longer period of time to post. I then had to prove her wrong by pointing out, that I had done 3 transactions previously, she then said she was told this by the online banking department, and she would need to get me to them.

I was then transferred to the online banking department, I then spoke to a rep, who stated that it took more then 3 days, it took 4 as per her, and I advised, well it has been 8 business days, and she said, well I do not even see your funds are available yet. I then requested her supervisor on this issue, due to the fact that nothing I was told made sense. I then get her supervisor Renee, who told me that it take 5 days, after the transaction is posted, and that is why my funds are still not available, and that is why they returned the check, and since it is not bank error, are refusing to pay the 25 fee, that I have gotten from my rental company. I then asked for her sup, she said there was no one else, and asked if there was anything else she could help me with. So I asked for the president and ceo's name and address, stating that I was going to file a formal complaint, she said she did not know it and told me to have a great day.

So I called back this morning and spoke to a rep, without going over the situation with her, I requested her sup, then I was handed over to a Michelle, who then told me, that they hold my funds for 4 business days, after they post, and that my funds became available on 6/05, later on in the conversation she changed that date to 6/04, and said that she will not reverse any third party fees since this is not the banks error. Also on my nsf fee message they send me, they said they would not charge me a nsf fee, I wonder why, maybe because it shold have not been nsf, and they did, they charged me it, and then gave me a issue about reversing it. Staing that it was not their fault.

I have never had so many stories given to me on a situation like this, and this is not the only problem I have had. I was just wanting to voice my concern on this matter, so that anyone else interested in Washington Mutual's practices, will be able to see how they operate.
