Wells-Fargo
Made me come to a branch for their screw-up

Business & Finance

I was recently consolidating my Wells-Fargo bank accounts. Several of them had small balances, so I just decided to close them, and transfer the money into one Wells-Fargo account.

One such account had a balance of 932.89, I don't even know why I had the account. Nonetheless, I spoke to my "Dedicated Phone Banker", and she closed the account and moved the balance to the designated account. Two days later, I checked online, and the account was indeed no longer there. However, when I looked in the account that I requested the transfer to, there were 2 transactions, 1 for 932.89 and another for 932.88. I assumed that they would catch this, and make the appropriate adjustment.

Three days later, the balance still reflected the addtional transfer, so I called my "Dedicated Phone Banker" to let them know that they had transferred the money twice. They apologized and told me that they would remove the fees that they had assessed me for their mistake. That was really nice of them I thought.

However, they told me that they couldn't 0 out the balance because it was a closed acount and I would have to go to a branch to rectify the situation. I considered this quite an imposition since they screwed up.

So I get to the branch and meet with a doofus named Marco. He's personable enough, but he clearly didn't know what he was doing. He told me it was going to be difficult to transfer money back to a closed account. Finally, after about a half an hour of struggling through his software that he didn't understand, he declared that the issue was resolved.

He then proceeds to tell me that this is why overdraft protection is important, and do I want to set it up. I tell him no, since this is the only time this has ever happened and it was the banks fault. He agrees and gives me his card and tells me to call him if I change my mind about the overdraft protection.

I'm sure this isn't over.
