Threatening reposession without any notice

I have had an account with 5th 3rd Bank for 3 years now. My husband got a call yesterday from a collection agency saying out account was past due since 11. We just sent them a late payment for December the previous Thursday and once that was cashed we would be current. Total owed was ~$200 or so. Charles from the collection agency told my husband that unless we paid $638.00 TODAY, my car would be repossed as of tomorrow. My husband said we didn't have the $ until Friday (1/25) and they finally agreed to do a postdated auto withdrawl from our checking acct.

After all this I got home and my husband told me what had went on over the phone. I knew this was incorrect. I new they had rec'd my Jan payment on the past Thurs as I sent it Priority with tracking. I called 5th 3rd Bank and told them they had my ck, and the lady told me that it probably wouldn't be posted to my acct for sometime due to Martin Luther King Day. So we paid 5th 3rd $230.00 plus $638.00. That would cover 4 payments total plus MORE fees for doing a ck by phone. Ridiculous.

I called "Charles" back from the collections agency and Charles told me to stop payment on the ck we gave 5ht 3rd for $230.00. I couldn't believe it. Then I asked what the $638.00 was for and $7.00 was for FEES, $631.00 was for Dec, Jan and Feb. They never mentioned that they were taking 2 payment PLUS prepaying Feb. My February payment isnt' even due until Feb 16th, but they felt the need to take more $ ahead anyway or they would still repossess. That is just nuts.

We just stopped payment on the $230.00 like Charles told us to do. This better not come back to bite us in the butt.in the future I would NEVER EVER EVER recommend 5th 3rd to ANYONE, not even my worst enemy. There is a reason they don't have a branch in my town!
