Wells Fargo
Ripping off customers when accounts are closed

Business & Finance

I closed my account this last September with a Wells Fargo in California under the agreement that they'd hold back only exactly what they needed for pending charges. Apparently they miscalculated (poor math skills! At a BANK!) and now I'm being told that I owe them about $4 and some change, as well as an overdraft fee, of unnamed amount.

I called their overdraft center to try to clear this up, and was connected to a banker. She told me that she needed to get her supervisor to make sure that they could assist me, and what they could do to fix THEIR error. At first she tried to blame me for the overdraft. Once I was put on hold so that she could call over her supervisor, they hung up on me unexpectedly.

In my conversation with the overdraft teller, they told me that it would not go on my credit report (I doubt that), and every bank in the US would be alerted to the error, to be reported as my fault.

Now that I've moved, and have been in the process of finding employment, they try to keep me down in the hole. If you ever bank with this company, don't use their card for more than a month when you're trying to close with them. Even still they may try to claim an old charge as overdraft!
