I found a full page article in the newspaper from American Grants. They offered Government Grants up to 35,000 to purchase a home. They had a meeting on Oct. 7th. At the Holiday Inn in Wake Forest Raleigh, NC. I atttended the meeting with my sister in-law Evelyn D Ware, (Person writing this report). I attended the meeting because I am a single parent and have the desire to purchase a home. My income is low, but I do have excellent credit.
The people at the meeting of American Grants, offered many things. They said that we did not have to go to a bank to process all of the paper work. They said that if you are a minority we receive more benefits. They also said that if you are a single woman you have even more benefits to obtain a grant up to $35,000 or a low rate loan of 1 1/2%. At the meeting I paid with my credit card a total of $1,002.12. Because they promise they were going to help me to obtain this grant.
I explain to them that I do not speak English (Puerto Rican). They told me that they had Spanish speaking customer service people. The next day, I called the office of the American Grant to get information and to follow up with some paper work. I asked for a Spanish speaking person, there was no one to help me. They also told me that I had to go to the bank to obtain a loan approval letter. This did not make sense to me since they said at the meeting that we did not have to contact the bank.
They told me that I was going to receive some forms within three to fours days after signing the contract, as of today, Oct. 21, I have not received no forms. I call three times and no assistant has been giving to me. They gave me instructions, such as, go to our web page. I explain that I do not have a computer I am a computer illiterate. They told me that there is nothing that they can do for me because I do not make enough money. This was not explain at the meeting. All they spoke about, was all the wonderful things they were going to do for me. They convince me and I paid something that I could not really afford at this time. Once the money was paid to American Grants, their attitude change.
American Grants is not keeping their promise. At the meeting there were about 140 people. I do hope that these people are not in the same financial situation that I am. If so, we have to stop this people for doing so much harm to innocent and needy people.
