OK, I get an envelope that doesn't have a return address. The letter almost looks convincing the Check looks real! It is a real COUNTERFIT check for almost $3,000!

The letter says that I am accorded 2nd TIER WINNER STATUS. The check enclosed ($2,295.00) is required to be paid and it is intended to help pay your taxes.

The letter includes a phone number with the area code of 902 - which is CANADA, the letter head is from Norwalk CT, and the check is from a WISCONSIN bank.

I already had the thoughts flying through my head on how I can pay off all my credit cards, buy the kids some new beds... And then THANK GOD FOR GOOGLE!

I looked up "North American Prize Pool" and found a few reports of it being a scam in SEVERAL states. Apparently they have you cash the check, then send them money (I never called the 902 phone number they had listed.)

I did try to call the 866 number on the check, it went to a number that literally says "Hello, Goodbye" and hangs up.
So I Googled the name of the bank on the check. (Mine was US BANK Wausau WI - but many of the other reports are other banks.) I called the number I found there, and sure enough, it is a SCAM. The lady at US BANK said it has been reported to them before and not to deposit the check.

My letter was for a drawing on January 5. But from what I found in several sites this has been going on for a while.

(DARN, I sure could have used the $45,000 they promised me!)

Oh another clue, the name on the check is different from the name on the letter. I figure the names are other people that have already been scammed.

Hope this helps another person they are trying to sucker...
