Ripoff Collection Scam

Thanks to those of you who have shared your stories and for usacomplaints.com! I just received a similar letter stating I owe on an unpaid past debt.

Like others I did not recognize the original creditor's name and my middle initial is listed incorrectly. Luckily my husband and I thought it was odd and I googled Midland Credit this morning.

Unfortunately I have already responded by leaving a message on a machine inquiring about the letter and left my home phone number... After reading others stories any future communication will be done by certified mail.

My only question is what happens if we simply ignore them? They are not valid claims, can they still show up on our credit report?
